Anthony was born in Japan to an American father and a Japanese mother. He grew up in Okinawa speaking only Okinawan and Japanese. When he was 18, he decided to move to the United States to study English. It was the first time had met the American side of his family since he was a small child. Anthony studied at the Little Rock Adult Education Center and at UALR before he started working with his Literacy Action tutor, Izumi Liss, about two and a half years ago. In the five years he has lived here, he has gone from speaking almost no English to speaking well. Now Anthony works at Integrity as a patient care associate, and he is planning to enroll at Pulaski Tech. He recently passed the Compass reading test and plans to take the Compass writing test soon. We are so proud of Anthony (and thankful to his tutor, Izumi) and wish him lots of luck!
