Julie Payne, VISTA Member (Program Coordinator)

Julie Payne joined Literacy Action in August 2015 as a VISTA Member in out Little Rock office. Julie is 30 years old. She has been in the service industry since she was old enough to work and feels that she is finally able to pursue her dreams and serve with a nonprofit. Julie has worked with a variety of volunteer organizations and she is thrilled to be involved with the VISTA program. Julie will soon complete her B.A. degree in interdisciplinary studies, with a focus on English, nonprofit leadership and poverty studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Her hobbies include reading, baking and gardening. The latter two are works in progress, however her three dogs enjoy the natural treats, even when they don’t look perfect, and they steal the organic veggies from the garden when they can.

This VISTA position is responsible for working with Literacy Actions ABL and ESL satellite programs – studying these programs that vary in their development stages, helping them grow to help more students and train more tutors. The outcome for this VISTA position will be a solid first draft of Literacy Action’s standard operating procedures on how we work with satellite programs.
